by Miki Matsui
by Miki Matsui
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
by Miki Matsui
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun

Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun

Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun

2026/6/28 – 7/4 “Memory Shortage Engulfs Autos”
Weekly Semiconductor News | PDF Download
AI’s memory shortage has finally spilled over into automobiles. Micron signed a long-term supply agreement with GM (7/1), securing next-gen vehicle memory for years ahead. Behind the scenes, DRAM spot prices have surged roughly 4.5x in just a few months. The scramble for AI servers is now rippling into the automotive world. What caught my attention most was Qualcomm’s challenge to NVIDIA without using HBM. Their new approach stacks compute beneath DRAM, claiming roughly 6x the power efficiency of HBM, with Meta and Microsoft already placing orders. The assumptions of HBM-first and GPU-first are starting to erode. Meanwhile, markets saw a sharp pullback. Semiconductor ETFs dropped -12.9% in just two trading days, the biggest decline since this spring. That said, they’re still up 80%+ year-to-date. Is this a bull market retracement or the start of a real correction? I feel we’re at a juncture where quality will be tested.

2026/6/19 – 6/25 “The Memory Blowout & the Market-Cap Race”
Weekly Semiconductor News | PDF Download
This week’s star was, surprisingly, memory. Micron’s earnings announced on 6/24 were record-breaking, with EPS forecast at +998% YoY. HBM (high-bandwidth memory for AI) is already sold out for 2026, and the stock is up +324% YTD, overtaking Meta in market cap. Memory, once a supporting player to GPUs, leapt into the center of the AI rally.
What caught my attention most was NVIDIA’s moves. They announced 35 AI supercomputers across 23 European countries, pushing their market cap to ~$5T—the world’s largest. They’re no longer just a chip company; they’re becoming an infrastructure exporter, shipping entire AI factories to nations. Having both logic (NVIDIA) and memory (Micron) at all-time highs simultaneously feels almost too good to be true.
The strength is undeniable. But when everyone’s at record highs, it’s worth keeping overheating on your radar too.

2026/6/12 – 6/18 “Sovereign AI Opens — While Capacity Bites”
Weekly Semiconductor News | PDF Download
TSMC’s May revenue surged +30.1% YoY. Even with that growth, management declared that U.S. production capacity is nowhere near enough. Build and build, yet still fall behind—that’s where AI semiconductors stand today. At GTC Paris, NVIDIA unveiled Vera, a new CPU for AI agents, as European nations rushed to build sovereign AI infrastructure.
What caught my attention most was reality throwing cold water on the hype. Broadcom’s softer-than-expected AI guidance ($16B vs. the $17.2B consensus) triggered a −14% stock plunge on June 4. For the first time, the narrative that “AI grows forever” was challenged by actual numbers. Meanwhile, Oracle adopted 50,000 AMD chips and OpenAI partnered with AMD in a ~$90B deal—quietly diversifying away from NVIDIA’s dominance.
Demand is real, but supply and expectations aren’t infinite. That’s exactly why capital is flowing to whoever controls supply. It felt like a week where grounded, selective thinking finally took hold.

2026/6/6 – 6/11 “The AI Ripple Effect”
Weekly Semiconductor News | PDF Download
What I felt most this week was semiconductors clearly shifting their center of gravity — from relying solely on Moore’s Law miniaturization to heterogeneous design combining chiplets, advanced packaging, and dedicated AI accelerators. The era of squeezing performance from transistor shrinkage alone is over; “assembly technology” — how to intelligently stack and connect different chips — has taken center stage. AI’s computational demand accelerated this shift in a single week.
What caught my attention most was NVIDIA, having dominated data centers, now invading the PC market. They announced the Arm-based superchip RTX Spark co-developed with MediaTek, with plans to deploy it on Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Microsoft Surface as Windows on Arm.. An end-to-end design philosophy bundling CPU, GPU, and OS on Arm, directly challenging the x86 architecture (Intel/AMD) that has underpinned PCs for decades. The PC battleground is shifting from chip-level speed competition to which architecture can build the ecosystem.
At the foundational level, manufacturing technology constraints are hitting simultaneously. Next-gen SoCs from Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are all converging on TSMC’s 2nm (N2), effectively filling leading-edge capacity. Yet the EUV lithography equipment they all depend on has a single bottleneck in ASML.. especially next-gen High-NA EUV with extremely limited supply, creating a situation where everyone is competing for the same narrow pipeline. This is precisely why overflow demand from TSMC is flowing to Samsung and Intel foundries, and expectations for RISC-V (Tenstorrent, SiFive) as NVIDIA-independent alternatives are quietly rising. A technically dense week where AI demand is simultaneously reshaping design, manufacturing, and architectural leadership.

2026/5/29 – 6/5 “Redefining Semiconductor Hegemony”
View Weekly Semiconductor News
Custom AI ASIC (Google TPU, Meta MTIA, AWS Trainium3) shipment growth forecast for 2026 reached +44.6% YoY, nearly 3x the pace of general-purpose GPUs (+16.1%) according to IDC.. With Anthropic announcing plans to deploy Trainium3 at 1GW scale by end of 2026, the shift to in-house silicon has transformed from cost reduction to a survival strategy for breaking through physical power bottlenecks.
What caught my attention most was NVIDIA’s pincer move on the market from both edge and cloud. The RTX Spark PC CPU co-developed with MediaTek enters the $200B PC CPU market to challenge Intel/AMD’s stronghold, while its new datacenter CPU Vera began full shipments to Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI.. The computing landscape is being rewritten simultaneously from both PC and cloud sides.
Tectonic shifts in policy and capital ran in parallel. The EU announced Chips Act 2.0 on June 3, investing heavily in building Europe’s own foundry ecosystem to reduce dependence on U.S. technology.. the aim is to prevent anyone from holding a kill switch — repositioning semiconductors from an economic issue to a core security concern. In equipment, Nikon challenged ASML’s EUV monopoly with significantly lower prices, and investment capital pivoted from software to hard tech (Cerebras stock +68% on IPO day, Eclipse-affiliated hardware companies raising $14B YTD).. And on June 1, the BIS strengthened export controls, applying license requirements to overseas subsidiaries of Chinese companies and sealing third-country loopholes. “Semiconductor nationalism” accelerating beyond borders and corporate capital structures — it was a dense week.

2026/5/15 – 5/21 “AI Demand-Driven Supply Chain Reorganization”
View Weekly Semiconductor News
NVIDIA’s Q1 revenue hit $81.6B, with data center up 92% YoY and networking up 199%.. expanding at a pace where “growth” hardly captures it anymore. The industry’s total AI/HPC demand is now on track to reach $1.5 trillion by 2030 (which also means 55% of the market is concentrated in a single category: AI accelerators — an abnormal structure).
What caught my attention most was Apple/Qualcomm clearly moving away from TSMC concentration toward Intel 18A and Samsung Foundry. TSMC’s CoWoS packaging capacity has hit physical limits, and Samsung faced an 18-day labor strike (negotiations resumed 5/19) — foundry selection is no longer about cost but about “who physically has capacity available”..
On the geopolitical side, India’s Tata Electronics signed a $1.5B 300mm fab MoU with ASML, the U.S. CHIPS Act has $33B of its $36B already committed with only $0.4B in new FY2026 allocation remaining, while the CHIPS R&D office issued LOIs of up to $100M each to D-Wave and Rigetti (5/20-21).. the bridge from silicon limits to quantum computing has begun moving within U.S. policy.

2026/5/7 – 5/14 “AI Market Paradigm Shift”
View Weekly Semiconductor News
We still don’t know the full conclusions of the U.S.-China summit, but I expect semiconductor-related issues were on the agenda. I’ll incorporate any developments into upcoming slides as they emerge.
Despite approval for up to 75,000 NVIDIA H200 units for export to China, actual shipments were zero. The U.S. government’s 25% revenue toll effectively functions as an embargo, causing NVIDIA’s China revenue share to plummet to just 5%.. An extraordinary week where approved exports simply didn’t ship.
What caught my attention most was the strategic alignment between Apple and Intel Foundry finally surfacing. Intel won M7-generation prototyping on its 18A/14A nodes, reportedly brokered directly by Commerce Secretary Lutnick.. (the end of TSMC concentration is literally being designed by the government at this point).
On the demand side, TSMC revised its AI wafer demand projection to 11x over four years and raised its 2030 revenue forecast by 50% to $1.5 trillion, approving $31.3B in capex for N2/N2P and advanced packaging. Investment is fully shifting from training to inference, with London-based Fractile raising $220M.

2026/5/1 – 5/6 “Five Major Semiconductor Structural Shifts”
View Weekly Semiconductor News
Global semiconductor sales in Q1 reached $298.5B, up 25% YoY, driven by AI infrastructure demand. Manufacturing, geopolitics, and startups were simultaneously reshaped in what was truly a tectonic week.
What caught my attention most was SpaceX’s filing in Texas for a “$119B terafab” concept. Targeting 1 terawatt annual output at an unprecedented scale, with Intel 14A as the manufacturing partner and Tesla & xAI involved in a vertically integrated ecosystem.. (this is more like a “power plant + AI city” than a semiconductor factory).
That same week, reports of Apple’s initial discussions with Intel Foundry sent Intel stock surging 14% to an all-time high of $113.01, while Apple executives made a confidential visit to Samsung’s Taylor fab.. The end of the “Apple = TSMC” era feels increasingly imminent.
On the hyperscaler side, Meta and AMD committed to “6GW” and Anthropic and Google to “5GW” of AI capacity. The competitive axis has fully shifted from individual chips to “gigawatt-scale deployment.”

2026/4/24 – 4/30 “Record Profits and Hegemony Reshuffling”
View Weekly Semiconductor News
In the fourth week of April, Intel’s moves stood out. 18A yields exceeded internal targets, and the CFO officially announced opening to external foundry customers. Q1 revenue hit $13.6B, beating estimates by $1.4B, with after-hours stock surging 25%. With TSMC’s 2nm sold out through 2028, the market is beginning to recognize Intel as a realistic alternative.
Google splitting its 8th-gen TPU into “training (8t)” and “inference (8i)” was also symbolic. The shift from GPU dominance to workload-specific silicon is steadily accelerating.
Geopolitically, the MATCH Act’s DUV restrictions caused ASML’s China revenue to drop from 36% to 19%. Yet China’s Q1 semiconductor exports hit a record $234B (+43%). The more restrictions are imposed, the faster domestic production accelerates — a cat-and-mouse game that isn’t ending anytime soon..

I was traveling to Arizona last week, so this edition covers two weeks combined.
TSMC’s Q1 earnings were a shock. Net income up 58% YoY, gross margin at 66.2%. HPC accounted for 61% of sales, and the notion that “AI demand is just a temporary cycle” seems to have finally disappeared entirely.
Memory pricing was another major story. The HBM demand explosion is squeezing commodity DRAM supply — DRAM market up 125% YoY, NAND up 234%. The term “memflation” is spreading. Consumer memory prices gradually climbing may just be a matter of time..

Global semiconductor sales reached $88.8B, up 61.8% year-over-year. This is no longer a “recovery” — it’s being called the beginning of a “supercycle.”
While Google, Meta, and Amazon are investing at trillion-dollar scale to develop their own chips and break NVIDIA’s dominance, what caught my attention most was ASML’s High-NA EUV equipment. Only 5-10 units are slated for shipment in 2026 despite exploding demand — the bottleneck is concentrated in a single company.
The semiconductor battle may be shifting from “who has the best technology” to “who controls the equipment”..

Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun

Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun
客製化AI ASIC(Google TPU、Meta MTIA、AWS Trainium3)2026年出貨成長率預測達年增44.6%,接近通用GPU(+16.1%)的3倍(IDC)。
Slide by M. Matsui / Text by T. Debun

2026/2/20 – 2/26 「Meta x AMD 1000
